New Latino Health Center Serves Spanish-Speaking Members

To better serve our Latino members, we have opened Kaiser Permanente's first outpatient clinic in the Sacramento Valley where health care service is given by Spanish-speaking providers. The Latino Health Center is located in Medicine G on the second floor at our South Sacramento Medical Center.

"Our new Latino Health Center helps us better serve our Latino and Spanish speaking members and their families in a very convenient, culturally sensitive manner," said Rich Isaacs, MD, Physician-in-Chief at South Sacramento. "This center is the vision of our very innovative physicians and staff whose dream of creating a Latino Health Center is now a reality and we can better personalize the care we provide our Spanish-speaking members."

Decorated by work by local Latino artists, the center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Juan P. Moreno, MD, is the medical director of the facility. Guadalupe Roldan, MD, and Malrubio Cabrera, MD, also provide adult medicine care at the Center. Our Spanish speaking members have access to a complete multidisciplinary team, including Curtis Chun, PhD, behavioral medicine specialist; Lorena Castro, MPH, clinical health educator; and Emma Robilino-Rivas, physical therapy.

"I'm proud to be a part of this unique, adult medicine model that delivers culturally competent care in the best way possible by having a dedicated health care team that is bilingual and bicultural," said Moreno.

All support staff members also speak Spanish and are culturally competent. The health center works with other departments, such as pharmacy and the lab, to provide bilingual services to optimize our members' overall health care experience.

There are currently more than 18,000 Latino members in the South Sacramento area. Census reports show that Latinos are the largest minority group and the fastest growing population. Latinos are expected to be the majority in California by the middle of the 21st century.
